converted circa 1870, with octagonal 7 1/2in. barrel signed 'E, WHITNEY, NEWHAVEN', the underside also stamped with the conversion number '63', anchor stamp at breech on top-flat, bead fore-sight, sighting groove to the solid top-strap, plain cylinder lengthened to the rear, solid frame with dove-tailed standing breech-face and enlarged loading slot, brass trigger-guard, smooth walnut grips and hinged under-barrel rammer with 'Colt' type locking catch, stripped of finish
